Phonics

At North Farnborough Infant School we believe that for all our children to become fluent readers and writers, phonics must be taught through a systematic and structured phonics programme.

Read Write Inc. - North Farnborough Infant School's phonics programme

We use Read Write Inc. to plan and provide daily engaging phonics lessons provides a structured and systematic approach to teaching phonics and early reading. It is used by more than a quarter of the UK's primary schools. The Read Write Inc programme meets the high expectations of the curriculum and uses effective assessment to ensure all children make good progress.

The Department for Education strongly recommend the use of a systematic, synthetic phonics scheme when teaching phonics to children. Synthetic phonics is simply the ability to convert a letter or letter group into sounds that are then blended together into a word.

Here at North Farnborough Infant School, we are using the Read Write Inc (RWI) programme to get children off to a flying start with their reading. Read Write Inc. is a method of learning based upon letter sounds and phonics, and we use it to aid children in their reading and writing.

The children are assessed regularly and grouped according to their phonic knowledge. They will work with a Read Write Inc trained teacher or Learning Support Assistant.

Our Read Write Inc 'Reading Leader' is Mr Holden (English Leader)
